I am a Certified Facilitator of Darkness To Light's "Stewards Of Children" Training Program. I have Co-Facilitated this training program for large groups in the past, and currently I am offering this training as a sole Facilitator to smaller groups of up to 20 people per workshop. Stewards Of Children is a 2-hour training program for adults and teens in preventing child sexual abuse. For those who are unfamiliar with this amazing training program, please click on my website's "FACILITATING WORKSHOPS" page and also visit Darkness To Light's website for further information at: www.D2L.org
In addition to my Facilitator training at Darkness To Light, I have studied human behavior extensively for over thirty years. I have a passion for working to keep children safe through activism and educating others. This passion began when I was a young child and continued to build as I began to understand how physical and psychological trauma affects children so devastatingly that those harmful affects continue into adulthood. Through self-education from books, interviews, documentaries, workshops, 12-Step Programs, and consultation and advisement from professionals in the field of psychology, I sought out all information available on the subject of dysfunctional families vs. raising children in a healthy environment, what child abuse is in all forms, the devastating affects of trauma caused by abuse, and how childhood trauma causes various psychological challenges for adults.
I have been on the search for truth my whole life, though I began this self-education in 12-Step Program Recovery in 1987 when I became 'sick and tired of being sick and tired', as they say, after watching John Bradshaw's public television (PBS) series on "The Family". Soon after that I began getting psychotherapy treatment in 1988. Although I probably qualify for just about every 12-Step Program there is, I started my recovery in Al-Anon ACA, a program for co-dependents who are adult children of alcoholics. That was a great program to start in because not only does it address the symptoms of co-dependency, it also leads you to discover the core issues that brought about that and other addictions.
While attending Al-Anon ACA meetings, I discovered what other 12-Step Programs I qualify for and began treatment in those programs as well: Nar-Anon, for co-dependents/co-addicts who are friends or family of drug addicts; Al-Anon, for co-dependents/co-alcoholics who are friends or family of alcoholics; eventually Narcotics Anonymous (NA) for drug addicts; Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) for alcoholics; and finally Incest Survivors Anonymous (ISA), for incest survivors and pro-survivors (those who support survivors). Yes, in that order, which is probably the opposite of how most people progress through their recovery. More commonly, people generally start their treatment in AA, then NA, followed by other programs such as Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, Al-Anon ACA, then for those who qualify, ISA; but hey, recovery is a unique path for each individual. This was mine.
I highly recommend any and all 12-Step Recovery Programs one might qualify for, as a way to get help for various addictions and psychological challenges caused from growing up in a dysfunctional family. Through 12-Step Program Recovery, you can also discover the root causes of these addictions and challenges, and get on-going treatment, get support to heal from the trauma that caused these challenges, and they are free of cost as these programs are ran solely on the donations of members. I have remained clean and sober since I began my recovery from addiction in 1989.
This self-education, life experience, and ability to thoroughly understand and grasp the information obtained, has prepared me to share my detailed expertise with others in a way that is intended to be easily understood by anyone who seeks this knowledge. It is my intention, in the near future, to complete the training programs I am currently writing and offer these workshops in subjects additional to childhood sexual abuse prevention, such as child abuse prevention in general, healing from rape, and family genograms.
Please check this website in the future for updates and additional training workshops offered. If you would like to receive an e-mail when any of my training workshops become available, please go to this site's CONTACT ME page and fill out the form indicating what training workshops you would like to receive information on via e-mail.
